Andy Warhol Original c.1955 A la Recherche du Shoe Perdu Offset Lithograph

Before becoming an internationally famous artist and cultural icon, Andy Warhol was a highly successful commercial illustrator for a variety of clients including Columbia Records, Glamour magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, NBC, Tiffany & Co., and Vogue among others. As an illustrator for shoe designer I. Miller, Warhol produced advertisements which appeared weekly in the New York Times. Shoes would become a recurring subject for Warhol throughout his career. This charming lithograph for the cover of "A la Recherche du Shoe Perdu," the title a reference to Marcel Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past," offers a rare glimpse into Warhol's early iterations on this theme.
