Offered is a 1908 illustrated Colorado courtship letter and cover from Denver written by W. R. Fenwick to Ida Hocum of Des Moines, Iowa. The letter is affectionate in tone, with Fenwick repeatedly expressing his love and looking forward to their future together as husband and wife. He also describes serious illness, job loss, and financial hardship, including being taken home from camp on a stretcher and spending nearly all of his money on doctor bills.
The matching illustrated stationery features Colorado scenic views including "Gate-Way to Garden of the Gods" and Pikes Peak, and the cover bears an Omaha & Denver Railway Post Office (R.P.O.) handstamp.
As evidenced by Mrs. Fenwick's obituary, Ida Hocum and W. R. Fenwick married the following year in 1909. Condition as shown.
