Originally, the Uncle Sam covered milk glass ship dish was used for carrying mustard or holding candy. Manufactured by E.C. Flaccus Company of Wheeling, West Virginia between 1898 and 1915, the company was commissioned to produce this piece to commemorate the sinking of the Battleship Maine during the Spanish-American War. This is a vintage piece, but has survived quite well. The last photo does show slight hairline cracks.
