Description: A very handsome English Antique George III solid sterling silver tankard, having a baluster plain round straight sided body with an raised reeded band decoration, with the body hand engraved with an coat of arms family crest, fitted with a hinged domed lid, with an cast scroll shaped handle with heart shaped terminal and sitting on a circular shaped pedestal base. Holds up to an impressive one pint and a half with no leaks and definitely no holes. The tankard is of an excellent large size, with an excellent thick gauge of solid sterling silver and weighs a very impressive 776 grams. The main body is engraved with a family crest but not engraved with any presentation inscriptions or signs of anything erased. Overall a fabulous example made by a well known silversmith from the King George III period and is of 218 years of age, an excellent true antique not a modern reproduction and is ready to be added to your collection. Measurements: Height 18.5 cm, diameter across lid 10.7 cm and base 11.8 cm (Excluding the handle)
Condition report: Excellent clean condition for its 218 years of age with no dents, dings, holes, splits or repairs. Just some light surface marks which you would expect with age and use but nothing major or anything really that noticeable. The bottom rim is perfectly in shape and stand well on display with no wobble. The domed shaped hinged fitted lid works perfectly well and with no wear issues. The handle is not pushed in or any splits to the interior from a pushed in handle. The scroll shaped handle is in excellent condition with no repairs or damage. The interior for its age is in excellent clean condition with only some light age related wear but no nasty stains or wear issues. The body and lid are hallmarked with matching English solid sterling silver hallmarks which are in very readable condition with no major wear or rubbing. Overall a very handsome Georgian example, which is either ready to be used for its purpose or would make a fabulous addition to anyones collection. A very fine example.
