About the Artist:

Felix Jean was born on January 1, 1930 at L'Anse-a Veau. He started working at the Centre d'Art as a handyman. Students attending classes at the Centre D’Art immediately recognized his talent and they encouraged him to become a painter. Today his works can be found in many private art collections, both in Haiti and abroad. His artwork normally sells in Sotheby's and Christies auction houses.  He is well known for his bright colors and market scenes filled with people.  Some of his major woks were sent to west Germany and were reproduced by the magazine scala International.  He has had many exhibitions in the us and Europe and is represented in many private collections and museums interested in Haitian primitive art.  Felix is a true professional primitive painter, and his style has reached a definite characteristic in his distribution of space.  He is a true representative of good Haitian primitive art. His works have been publicized in many art books and in Renaissance in Haiti by Rodman.
