Antique Chinese Cloisonné Enamel Box, Birds & Flowers, Qing c.1780–1820
This object comes from a long-held private collection formed over decades of collecting. The seller has been an eBay member since 2015 as a buyer and only recently began releasing selected pieces, including this one.
Antique Chinese cloisonné enamel box of tall, lobed vertical form, constructed in hand-raised copper and decorated with polychrome enamels on a red ground. The exterior is worked in true cloisonné technique, with fine copper wire outlines forming a continuous bird-and-flower garden motif, including stylized birds in flight, flowering branches, and scattered blossoms.
The lid and body follow a matching scalloped profile, carefully fitted and finished with a hand-worked copper rim. The interior is fully enameled in a luminous blue glaze, covering both the walls and base, fired smooth and even, with natural depth and tonal variation. The exterior red enamel presents a softened, matte surface consistent with age, while the interior enamel retains a higher gloss due to protection from handling and light.
