Rare Smiths 8-Day Mantel Clock with Unique Pale Mint Dial & Floating Escapement

A Mid-Century Design Icon with Prestigious Provenance This is an exceptional example of British horology from the 1950s/60s. While most mantel clocks from this era featured standard cream or white faces, this particular Smiths model boasts an incredibly rare Pale Mint / Seafoam Green dial. This subtle, sophisticated colour was offered as a premium option and is now highly coveted by collectors of Mid-Century Modern (MCM) design.

Adding to its allure, the clock was originally retailed by Croydons of East Anglia (Bury St Edmunds), a prestigious high-end jeweller. The original brass retailer's plaque remains proudly attached to the rear.

Technical Innovation: The Floating Escapement Inside, this clock houses the famous Smiths Floating Escapement movement. Patented in the 1950s, this was a breakthrough in clock engineering. Unlike traditional pendulums, the floating escapement is far more resilient to being moved and does not require the clock to be perfectly level to keep accurate time.
