The Japanese occupied North China in1937. This stamp was issued in 1938 and the upper figures were applied in 1942-43. The upper figures read, 'North China'. The lower surcharge reads, 'Four Cents'. This is half the face value, which was added after the Japanese capitulation in 1945. The second overprint was applied in Kalgan. Stamps with this second, price overprint are not common.
