This a very rare fossilized and petrified TEREDO WOOD stone from coastal Oregon. It even has a couple of shell inclusions on the bottom and a few of the cells are even crystallized. • Formation: Ancient driftwood was inhabited by Teredo shipworms, which drilled tunnels into the wood. The wood was then buried in sediment, allowing minerals to fill the tunnels and replace the wood structure in a process called permineralization.
• Appearance: Petrified specimens often exhibit a "worm-eaten" look, with the burrows sometimes filled with agate, quartz, or mudstone.
• Usage: Due to its unique patterns, it is highly valued by collectors and lapidary artists
