| Denon DP-55L: A superb Japanese-made "Golden Era" turntable! |
Item Description
The Denon DP-55L is a direct-drive turntable that was released in Japan in 1981, during the "Golden Era" of Japanese audiophile equipment. Although mostly limited to Japan, Denon turntables from this era have a phenomenal reputation worldwide for their high-quality playback performance, especially the stable rotation speed, high SNR, low motor noise, and low wow and flutter. The DP-55L has some nice features, such as a non-contact auto-lift mechanism (servo lifter), electronic braking, and anti-skating. The “L” signifies that this turntable is fully automatic, equipped with an auto-lifting arm.
This unit is in good condition. As signs of aging, the enclosure has some minor scratches, scuffs, and peeling (please check photos). The rubber mat became hardened from age. It looks like some kind of oil had been applied and made its surface sticky. (please check photos). The dust cover has some scratches and scuffs and there is a crack beside the hinge part (please check phots and refer to dust cover policy ). The unit has been thoroughly checked and tested by our professional technician, confirming its flawless operation. The 33 and 45 settings both work perfectly, and the platter rotation is like clockwork, as expected from Japanese products of this era, which were built for a lifetime of operation.
