Description
A beautiful Kastehelmi vase designed by celebrated Finnish glass artist Oiva Toikka for Iittala.
“Kastehelmi,” meaning “dewdrop” in Finnish, is one of Toikka’s most recognisable designs. First introduced in 1964, the surface is covered in raised glass droplets inspired by morning dew shimmering in the Nordic landscape. The textured pattern serves both aesthetic and technical purposes, originally developed to conceal joint marks in pressed glass while creating a distinctive optical effect that reflects and refracts light beautifully.
This olive green example is particularly attractive, offering warmth and depth compared to the more common clear versions. At 15.5cm high, it is a practical cabinet size — ideal for a small bouquet, single stems, or as a sculptural standalone display piece. Scandinavian modern design continues to perform strongly in the Australian market, and Kastehelmi remains one of Iittala’s most collected ranges.
