Electric Wizard Come My Fanatics CD (Jewel Case, 1997, Rise Above)
Come My Fanatics is the second studio album from English doom metal band Electric Wizard, originally released in 1997 through Rise Above Records. This CD jewel case edition captures a pivotal release in the development of the band's distinctive doom and stoner metal sound.
Recorded in July 1996 at Red Dog Studios in Bournemouth, Come My Fanatics... was produced by Rolf Startin, Mike Hurst and Jus Oborn. Following Electric Wizard's 1995 debut album, the band deliberately pursued a heavier and more extreme direction, developing the massively distorted guitar tones, low-end weight, repetitive riffs and psychedelic atmosphere that would become central to their identity.
The album features the classic early lineup of Jus Oborn on guitar, vocals and effects, Tim Bagshaw on bass and effects, and Mark Greening on drums. Together they created a dense and unpolished sound built around crushing doom riffs, feedback, heavy bass and relentless drumming, incorporating stronger stoner and sludge metal elements than the band's debut.
Come My Fanatics... includes Return Trip, Wizard In Black, Doom Mantia, Ivixor B/Phase Inducer, Son Of Nothing, Solarian 13, Funeralopilis and the closing trilogy of tracks, which forms a loose concept concerning environmental destruction and escape from Earth. The album's lyrical and atmospheric identity draws on 1970s horror films, biker movies and the writings of H. P. Lovecraft.
Come My Fanatics... was followed by the Chrono.Naut EP and Supercoven before Electric Wizard released Dopethrone in 2000. The progression from Come My Fanatics... to Dopethrone established a particularly influential period in the band's catalogue and helped shape the heavier, fuzz-driven direction associated with modern doom and stoner metal.
For collectors and listeners exploring Electric Wizard, British doom metal, stoner metal and the Rise Above Records catalogue, Come My Fanatics... represents an important early chapter in the band's development and a key connection between traditional doom and the heavier psychedelic sound that followed.
