ORIGINAL 1960 ANDRE MASSON (1898-1987) 'PROFIL ROSE VISAGE' SIGNED LIMITED EDITION LITHOGRAPH

This is a wonderful original.  I have handled a few Andre Masson lithographs in the past but I think this is one of my favorites.  Really of all his work that I have seen, I think this one of my favorites.  For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below.  This is a wonderful 1960 surrealist portrait of a woman's face in pink.  Sort of makes me feel like a tattooed face.  Stunning large image measuring 23 1/8 x 18 inches.  Signed and numbered in pencil below the image.  Archival matte and frame make a stunning presentation.  I have not taken it out of the frame but I am 100% confident that it is full margins and archival hinged inside.  Really the complete package.  Black artist frame is complimentary and ready to hang.  Frame measures 33 x 26 1/2 inches.  FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES  

For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from a gallery that sells the artist's work reads: "Masson (1896-1987) was a French painter and sculptor who played an important role in the development of Surrealism in the 1920s and 1930s. Masson was born in Balagny-sur-Therain, and attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1912 to 1914, joining the French army shortly after his graduation. While serving in World War I, he was wounded and taken prisoner by the Germans, which resulted in a subsequent nervous breakdown. This experience proved to be a turning point for Masson, as he began to explore his own inner world and develop a new style of painting that combined elements of primitive and modern art.

Masson became a key figure in the Surrealist movement; his works often depicted dreamlike images of the subconscious. Through his work, he sought to explore the mysteries of the human psyche and the power of the imagination. Like the artist Max Ernst, he was also a great admirer of Sigmund Freud and his theories of the subconscious. During the 1930s, Masson traveled to North Africa and Mexico, experiences which further influenced his art."
