This item is a RARE antique Victorian-era sterling silver picture frame with the manufacturer marks SML that I can’t be 100% sure who the maker is.

The intricate design depicting fish is in the style of William Comyns & Sons in England around the Victorian or Art Nouveau period.

His designs feature ornate pierced and embossed decoration, often depicting foliage, scrolls, birds, or mythological figures.

This frame is constructed from solid sterling silver with a blue velvet backing material.

It has the glass but I do not know if it is original to the frame. The blue velvet backing has some condition issues and the top gold piece to hold the picture in is broken.

I have taken pictures of all the measurements. The frame itself is measuring 7x7 inches.

Otherwise for its age it is in remarkable condition.

Hallmarks:

Detailed hallmarks are typically stamped on the silver, indicating the manufacturer, city of origin (often London or Birmingham), and date of manufacture.

The anchor stamp represents the Birmingham Assay Office.

Lion Passant: The walking lion symbol confirms the item is 925 sterling silver.

Date Letter: The lowercase letter "d" in this specific shield shape likely represents the year 1899 for the London Assay Office.
