Offered is a Post Office Department penalty envelope from Athens, Michigan, canceled May 19, 1938 during National Air Mail Week (May 15-21, 1938).

The cover features a local green rubber-stamp cachet reading “Home of the Potawatomies” with a Native American profile design. Marked “Official Business” and “Penalty for private use to avoid payment of postage,” with Via Air Mail designation and Athens, Mich. postmark.

It's been opened at the top and folded.
