Haitian Painting by Paul Beauvoir, dated '60.

 

The Painting in oil on MASONITE, and measures 32"x 24" and is framed with an overall dimension of 33x25.  

The painting is in very good condition. However there is a small 1/2" area on the top right corner of the masonite that is missing.  It is hidden under the frame and does not affect the beauty of the artwork. 

  

About the Artist: Paul Beauvoir was born in 1933 and died in Died in Port-au-Prince on August 24, 1972, in an accident.  Influenced in design by the professional hand embroidery of his mother, Mr. Beauvoir is another by-product of the Centre D’Art and later the Foyer Des Arts Plastiques. He played an important part in the evolution of modern Haitian painting. Although still figurative, his impressionistic work is above all lines of definite demarcation with backgrounds of color studies where orange and blue often predominate.  He has often been associated with the so-called Haitian Commercial School.  He likes strong colors and stylization.  Beauvoir worked very closely with Rene Exume and Emanuel Jolicoeur.
