Outwardly, these lamps represent a ball 2 cm in diameter, made of thin quartz glass, in which this or that chemical element is placed. The buffer is an inert gas xenon (Xe). These lamps contain mixtures of elements or individual elements of alkali and other metals and non-metals. Also, these lamps were with various inert gases.

These lamps have a 2 cm long stench-leg, but also come with a very short leg.

Main purposes: VSB-2 high-frequency spectral lamps are gas-discharge radiation sources of the spectra of narrow atomic lines of various chemical elements. The radiation of the resonant lines of metals is used in two beam atomic absorption and atomic fluorescence spectrophotometers, the radiation of the spectra of atomic lines of inert gases can be used for the calibration of various interferometric and spectrophotometric devices.

 

The lamp is powered by the PPBL-3M device (ODO.200.012 TU). It is also possible to use devices PPBL-3 (2.000.003 TU) of earlier development. Operating modes should be below the maximum permissible by 10-20 mA.
