Early Mid-Century Ceramic Piggy Bank made by Shawnee Pottery of Zanesville, Ohio. Five inches tall, this cute little Bank features a "Miss" Piggy with long eyelashes closed as she stands in her frilly polka-dotted dress. She rests on her cork stopper, easily removed to allow retrieval of her cache of coins. Excellent Condition without cracks, chips or crazing. Remarkable for her age to have such minimal amount of paint loss, which plagued many Shawnee decorative household products due to their practice of "cold painting"...hand painting over the glaze. Definitely not a candidate for a dishwasher! This little Piggy Bank is bright, clean and delightful.
Operating from the late 1930's and well into the 1940's, Shawnee produced a variety of decorative items for the home, such as this adorable Piggy Bank. Cookie Jars, Creamers, Pitchers, Salt and Pepper Sets were all common household furnishings in America's kitchens created by Shawnee during their popular production years.
