Vintage Bakelite & Brass Nautical Parallel Ruler / Chart Plotter
Original vintage parallel ruler used for nautical navigation and chart plotting. Constructed from bakelite bars with brass linkage arms that allow the ruler to slide while maintaining perfectly parallel alignment, a classic design used by navigators, engineers, and draftsmen for transferring angles and plotting courses on charts.
Previously identified as a bookbinding clamp, but this form and construction are consistent with a navigation parallel ruler rather than a press tool.
Features:
• Bakelite body with solid brass arms and hardware
• Smooth pivoting linkage mechanism
• Maintains parallel alignment when moved across a surface
• Likely mid-20th century drafting/navigation instrument
Condition:
Good vintage condition with expected age-related wear, patina on brass, and light surface marks from use. Hinged arms move as intended and remain structurally sound. Please review all photos for exact condition and measurements.
Great piece for:
• Nautical instrument collectors
