Vintage 800 Silver Vanity Set –
Compact Ornate Repoussé Hand Mirror (4 3/4" x 2 1/2") & Matching
Comb Case (4 1/2" x 1 3/8") with Floral & Scroll Motifs (Late
19th–Early 20th Century European, Likely German, Italian, or Austrian)
This petite and elegant vintage vanity set consists of a
hand-held mirror measuring 4 3/4" long x 2 1/2" wide (including
handle) and a matching comb case measuring 4 1/2" long x 1 3/8" wide,
both crafted in 800 silver (80% pure silver, the continental European standard
from the late 1800s to early 1900s). The mirror features a scalloped frame with
intricate repoussé and chased floral scrolls, beaded borders, and a central cartouche
motif, fitted with a beveled glass reflecting surface (light patina on the
back). The comb case is hinged with matching detailed chasing (foliate scrolls,
dotted edges, and leaf accents) and a textured interior lining (likely original
fabric or velvet). Both pieces are hallmarked "800" (visible on the
reverse or interior), reflecting the European silver purity standard used in
Germany, Italy, Austria, and other countries during the Art Nouveau and late
Victorian periods. The ornate, flowing floral and scrollwork design is
characteristic of that era's luxury vanity accessories. In excellent vintage
condition: Silver bright with light natural patina, chasing crisp and detailed,
mirror glass clear (minor speckling normal for vintage), case closure secure, no
dents, cracks, or repairs visible. A sophisticated, travel- or purse-sized
example of late 19th/early 20th-century European silver work—perfect for
dresser display, collectors of antique grooming accessories, or as a thoughtful
gift for vintage silver enthusiasts!
Note small dent on bottom of handle.
