REED GREEN COLISEUM
University of Southern Mississippi
Hattiesburg, MS
This postcard features Reed Green Coliseum on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, one of the most recognizable and historic athletic facilities in Golden Eagle sports history.
Opened in 1965, Reed Green Coliseum has long served as the home of Southern Miss Golden Eagles men’s and women’s basketball, as well as volleyball and other indoor sports. For decades, the arena hosted Southern Conference, Metro Conference, Conference USA, and Sun Belt matchups, along with memorable rivalries and postseason games. Its steep seating and energetic crowds made it a difficult venue for visiting teams.
Several notable players competed on this court before going on to professional careers, including Clarence Weatherspoon, a dominant forward and later an NBA All-Star with the Philadelphia 76ers, and Reggie Collier, one of the most versatile athletes in school history who went on to play professional football. Numerous other Golden Eagles players who later played professionally also developed their games at Reed Green Coliseum.
Beyond athletics, the coliseum has hosted concerts, commencements, and major campus events, making it a centerpiece of Southern Miss student life for generations.
With its rich basketball tradition and long-standing role in Golden Eagle athletics, Reed Green Coliseum remains an important part of Southern Miss sports history. This postcard is a great collectible for fans of college basketball, Southern Miss alumni, or historic college arenas.
