Lovely dimensional vintage rhinestone brooch. Five teardrop sapphirine* stones, interspersed with light brown rhinestones in three sizes and five AB clear rhinestones. An interesting setting, with fancy pierced prongs and fluted backs, with a goldtone finish. Unsigned but attributed to Regency. Measures 2 1/4" in diameter and 3/4" deep. AB stones were introduced in 1956, so this dates to the late 50s at earliest. 

Condition is so-so on close inspection, with wear and aging. The sapphirines have tarnishing to their backings. This is most obvious in daylight, which is what I used for the photos. Under the lamp at my desk, it's MUCH less noticeable. The AB stones are missing a lot of their finish, and one of them has a chip. This was very hard to capture; you can see it best in the very last photo, which also showcases a manufacturing flaw, a tiny pimple, on one of the sapphirines. That chip affected the table, so it is noticeable when light glances off the face of that stone. One of the tiny amber stones is set a little crooked, and the pin isn't perfectly straight. I did not even clean it, as I was afraid I'd do it more harm than good. Clasp works well. All that said, at first glance it's very nice looking.

(*saphiret stones were made in Czechoslovakia around or before 1900; sapphirine stones were a later attempt to reproduce them and were used by many of the better mid-century costume jewelry makers. Confusing things further, there is also a natural gemstone called sapphirine, which is blue like sapphire but is a completely different mineral.)
