This gorgeous vintage le Laguiole sailors knife made in France.  The design of this knife is unique and Laguiole France is famed for producing high-quality knives.  It features a black Buffalo horn scales one large spear main blade made and a secondary Marlin Spike. This knife has never been used. It is a fantastic addition to any knife collection.

Stiletto Profile: Droit in French means "Straight." This refers to the handle and blade shape, which lacks the traditional curve of a classic Laguiole shepherd's knife.
 
The Steel (440): Stamping 440 directly on the tang and "Le Laguiole Droit" on the blade was common in the 1980s and 1990s. It indicates stainless steel that holds a great edge and resists the salt-water corrosion a sailor might encounter.
     
Buffalo Horn Scales: Genuine Buffalo Horn is a classic Laguiole material. It is prized for its durability and the unique way it "warms" to the hand. In Near Mint condition, the deep black luster of the horn against the polished steel is a beautiful combination.
     
The Spike/Awl: In French cutlery, this tool is called an alène (awl) or épissoir (marlin spike). On a 4 1/2" frame, it serves as a heavy-duty punch for leather (saddlery/belts) or a splicing tool for rope.
     
Farrier: Some French makers marketed this straight pattern to horsemen because the straight handle allowed for a more secure grip when using the awl to punch holes in thick leather harnesses.
