OWL micro+ Energy Monitor – Brand New(ish), Zero Miles,
Slightly Battery-less
Opened to steal the batteries – never used!
Freshly styled, simple to use, and far more motivated than I
ever was, the OWL micro+ is a battery-powered energy monitor that can sit
anywhere in your home and silently judge your electricity usage.
This is the newer micro+ model, with extra features and
class-leading quality that should pay for itself in savings. In my case, it
paid for exactly five AA batteries, which I then stole back.
What it does (when you give it batteries):
Shows live electricity consumption so you can watch the
meter panic in real time
Stores historical and average readings for up to 3 months
Supports flat-rate, block, and Economy 7 tariffs
No electrician needed – installs easily unless you
procrastinate like me
Displays energy usage, cost, date, time, and greenhouse gas
impact (guilt included)
Included in the box:
Display unit
Transmitter unit
Fixed single sensor
Installation / user manual
The honesty bit:
No batteries included – needs 5 x AA alkaline batteries
I bought it, couldn’t access the meter cupboard, never
installed it, and reclaimed the batteries and never replaced them.
Basically, it’s unused, uninstalled, and innocent, apart
from the battery theft.
Stick some AAs in it and it’ll do exactly what it says on
the tin.
