H.G. WELLS.  H.G. Wells (1866–1946) was an eminent British writer who pioneered the science fiction genre with such classic novels as The Time Machine, War of the Worlds, and The Invisible Man.

RARE AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY H.G. WELLS CHASTIZING A PUBLISHING COMPANY FOR PROPOSING AN UNACCEPTABLE CONTRACT

Rare autograph letter signed by H.G. Wells chastising a publishing company for proposing an unacceptable contract: “Dear Sirs: I regret that it is quite impossible for me to sign the agreement you propose.  As I object to five clauses out of the eight & I consider clauses 6.7.8 are clauses no publisher should propose, I am afraid we are not likely to come to terms.  Yours very truly, H.G. Wells.”

“I REGRET THAT IT IS QUITE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO SIGN THE AGREEMENT YOU PROPOSE.  AS I OBJECT TO FIVE CLAUSES OUT OF THE EIGHT & I CONSIDER CLAUSES 6.7.8 ARE CLAUSES NO PUBLISHER SHOULD PROPOSE, I AM AFRAID WE ARE NOT LIKELY TO COME TO TERMS.”

Contains two pages on a single Heatherlea, Worcester Park, Surrey blindstamped card, measures 4.5 by 3.5 inches, created at Well’s home in England, and in fine condition with soiling and two filing holes to the top border.
