HMS BRISTOL

HMS Bristol was a Type 82 destroyer, the only vessel of her class to be built for the Royal Navy.

Originally intended as the first of a class of large destroyers to escort aircraft carriers, she was launched on 30 June 1969 and commissioned on 31 March 1973.

Bristol turned out to be a unique ship as the rest of the class were cancelled.  Following a long career which included the Falklands War, she was converted into a training ship in 1987 and served in that role at Whale Island, Portsmouth until October 2020 when she was finally decommissioned

She was eventually towed out Portsmouth on 11 June 2025 for scrapping in Turkey
