It's the chip pan upper oil strainer and keeps the threading chips from mixing in your oil and clogging or ruining your oil pump on your RIDGID 1822! Clog or ruin your oil pump and it's easily $500 for a new pump, with shipping, tax, etc. Plus your labor! See the drawing in the last pic, it is part# 20, in the drawing!
Sometimes it happens when we are in a hurry, we drop the die head and it lands on the chip pan upper oil screen strainer breaking it. Or, sometimes these get banged up, or fall off completely during transportation of your Ridgid 1822 threader. If they are missing or broken, then there is one less screen or filter protecting your $500 dollar oil pump from damage. We see it all the time on used equipment!
