DOCTOR WHO APPRECIATION SOCIETY NEWSLETTER CELESTIAL TOYROOM AUGUST 1983 VOLUME 8 NUMBER 8!

The Doctor Who Appreciation Society (DWAS) was founded in May 1976, emerging from the Westfield College Doctor Who Appreciation Society, and the editors and readers of the fanzine TARDIS which was first published in 1976.

The society produces a monthly print magazine, Celestial Toyroom (CT), still published today and sent to the society's members, a quarterly digital magazine, Cosmic Masque (free to access via the DWAS website), hosts conventions, organises a network of local groups, and provides discounts to members for Doctor Who-related merchandise for sale on the society's online shop. Since 2017 it has also published 'The Celestial Toyroom Annual' which is a compendium of items about a specific lead actor's contribution. The annuals are free to download with a limited run print copy produced for charity.

1978 was a year of change for DWAS. A membership fee £1.50 per year was introduced and CT, previously a free swaps and pen-pals newsletter, replaced TARDIS as the Society’s monthly newsletter, funded by the membership fee, instead of being sold in its own right as TARDIS had been. 

In the very early days, CT was produced from stencils and printed on a ‘roneo’ duplicator. The magazine was typically four to six sides and stapled in the left hand corner. It took until half way through 1979 for CT to be printed professionally.

This auction is for the August 1983 edition which is the eighth edition from volume 8. Features news on the series including Turlough leaving and Peri arriving, merchandise plus swap shop, pen pals and many fanzine adverts.

In good vintage condition with no tears or missing pages. There is age-related wear corners.
