West African Lost-Wax Bronze Hybrid Spirit Figure, Dogon Sphere, Bird & Crescent Headdress, ca. 1880–1920  

This object comes from a long-held private collection formed over decades of collecting. The seller has been an eBay member since 2015 as a buyer and only recently began releasing selected pieces, including this one.


 Solid, heavy copper-alloy figure cast by the lost-wax method. Hybrid head (human nose/mouth, spiral eyes, animal-ear/horn elements) under a large crescent/halo with a bird finial. Columnar, tree-textured spine rises through two broad circular disks—read as layered skirts or cosmic planes—flanked by long arcing arms. Authentic village casting with hand-tooled textures, irregular micro-pits, and natural age patina; edges show soft, long-term rub, not machine grinding.
Attribution: Dogon cultural sphere (Mali), with Senufo/Bamana affinities.
Date: Late 19th–early 20th century (c. 1880–1920).
Size/Weight: 10.5" tall; 965.5 g; non-magnetic.

Condition: Excellent, stable patina; minor age nicks on disk rims; no repairs.
A compelling cosmological mediator figure from an animist context—distinct from later tourist castings.
