They will never require maintenance of any kind, as once they are in place, they will work basically forever, as they are powered by nature. Simple, 5 minute install with absolutely no tools, no cutting of pipes, no plumber or handyperson needed, no modifications of any type, as long as there is a minimum of 4" of exposed water pipe. These units are exceptional at extending the life of water heaters as well, and many customers place one unit on their incoming water pipe, and a second unit just for their water heater. Prolongs the life of the heating element and internal parts. Everything needed to install is included. Simply place the provided rubber mesh mat around the pipe, place one half the unit on the pipe magnet facing down, and place the other half on top and use the supplied velcro strap or supplied nylon cable tie to tightly secure the units together across from each other.
