This Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7-inch Android-based tablet computer is the third generation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab series. It was released on 7 July 2013 with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean  and has been updated to 4.4.2. Powering the tablet is a 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU.

Samsung has customised the interface with its TouchWiz UX software. As well as apps from Google, including Google Play, Gmail and YouTube, it has access to Samsung apps such as ChatON, Smart Remote (Peel), S Voice, Group Play, Multi-Window and All Share Play. Internal storage is 8GB with a MicroSD card slot, readily accessible behind a plastic door on the lower left-hand side,  for expansion up to 64GB). It has a 7-inch TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, and both front and rear cameras

Software includes a free office suit, Voice S, Calendar S, Flipboard and several other applications, but overall there is also less bloatware. It is excellent for reading Nook and Kindle books. The touchscreen is impressive for its accuracy up to the edges and leaves little room for improvement. The positioning sensor also works reliably.  The speakers are located on the bottom, when holding the tablet in vertical position. At full volume, you will quickly notice that the two speakers use the housing as a resonator, thus producing a very good sound with highs and mids being well balanced.

On the right, the buttons for power and volume are ideally placed for a single-handed grip, and up top you have a standard 3.5mm headphone port. The bottom contains the microUSB slot and two small speaker grilles, emphasizing that this is a device that's meant to be operated in portrait.
