This George V ISM was awarded to Thomas Charles Dodd in 1914 entered in the London Gazette and the Edinburgh Gazette for that date.
Early ISM's were the same in appearance as the Imperial Service Order, both being awarder to members of the civil service.
The ISO was presented to senior members and the ISM awarded to lower ranks. In 1920 the ISM was reshaped to resemble the same as how we generally view a medal i.e. round.
For men the ISO medal was made of a silver star with a gold centre plaque and the ISM a silver plated bronze star with a silver centre plaque.
For women the star was replaced with a wreath.

This medal comes with a very comprehensive collection of material relating to the life of Thomas Charles Dodd from a researched presentation by Richard Taylor to copies of the Gazette entries to an extensive list of census records of the family from 1808, and birth records etc.

A photograph of Mr. Dodd and his wife plus details if his last resting place are also included.
