c. 1910s-1920s; The Pillsbury Company - Minneapolis, MN
Large, hand-painted tin trade sign advertising Pillsbury's Best - The Balanced Flour. This early, pre-electric display features a bold diagonal red and green layout with the slogan "Forget Luck - Use Pillsbury's Best" rendered in block and serif lettering. A painted flour sack illustration anchors the lower field, representing the brand's signature product during its early 20th-century marketing campaigns. The panel has been mounted in a custom oak frame for structural stability and display, preserving the integrity of its original hand-brushed finish and early industrial hardware.
The Pillsbury Company, founded in 1872 by Charles A. Pillsbury, rose to prominence as one of America's foremost flour producers. By the 1910s, its "Balanced Flour" campaign emphasized consistency and quality, a science-forward approach that marked a turning point in branded baking goods across the Midwest and beyond.
Surface wear, oxidation, and light loss are evident throughout, with age-toned patina across the tin and minor seam separations along the original joined panels. Paint remains stable and vividly legible.
