Pharmacokinetics of Moxifloxacin in Goats

by Gurmeet Singh, Mudasir Sultana, Adil Mehraj Khan

Pharmacokinetics of moxifloxacin @ was studied in healthy and bifenthrin intoxicated goats (n=4), following its IV administration. The MIC of moxifloxacin in plasma was maintained up to 8h in healthy goats whereas it was maintained only up to 6h in bifenthrin-intoxicated goats. The AUC was significantly decreased from 7.86±-1h to 6.90±-1h in bifenthrin-intoxicated goats. The distribution half-life (t1/2) and volume of distribution at steady state Vd(ss) ¬observed were 0.08±0.0008 h and 2.43±-1 respectively in healthy goats and 0.081±0.0006h and 2.32±-1 in bifenthrin intoxicated goats. Total body clearance was increased from 636.06±4.68 -1h-1 in healthy to 725.4±7.92 -1h-1 in intoxicated goats. However, decrease in elimination half life (t1/2) from 2.81±0.04h to 2.61±0.01h was observed in intoxicated goats. The dosage regimen of moxifloxacin calculated in healthy animals is 4.99 -1 followed by 4.73 -1 at 12h interval effective against bacterial isolates with MIC
