Provenance & History (The Story Behind the Art)

This piece carries significant provenance that makes it unique and valuable to collectors:

Verified Originality: The back includes a vintage paper label confirming the artist's illustration business address in Oakland, California

Historical Note: A handwritten note on the back, dated January 1988, confirms this watercolor was gifted by Mike and Pete Kowalski to Bill and Bonnie Benjamin as a thank-you note for a "memorable New Years stay."

Subject Matter: The artwork depicts a rustic cabin or home, likely in the Lake Tahoe area, titled "Tahoe Homestead." The precise detail reflects Kowalski's background as a professional architectural illustrator.

About the Artist

Mike Kowalski is a highly sought-after artist.

He is known for his mastery of watercolor and oils, winning prestigious awards like the Silver Medal of Honor at the AWS International Exhibition.

He is an active instructor and his current original fine art watercolors often sell for thousands of dollars. This 1988 piece is an excellent opportunity to own a verified original from his important early illustration career.

The artwork is presented in its original (or vintage) frame and is professionally double-matted. The outer dimensions of the frame are 14 inches wide by 11 inches high. The visible watercolor image within the mat opening measures 9 inches wide by 6.25 inches high.

This vintage original watercolor and framing are in Excellent Overall Condition for their age (circa 1988).

Artwork: The watercolor itself is bright, vibrant, and shows no noticeable fading, foxing, or damage.

Matting/Glazing: The matting and glass are clean and intact.

Frame: The aluminum (Nielsen-style) metal frame is in great vintage shape but does show minor scuffs consistent with its age. These scuffs are minor and do not detract from the artwork's display quality.

Provenance: The reverse side, including the artist's original illustration label and the hand-written thank you note to the original owners, is fully intact and has been deliberately preserved for its historical value.
