"The authors of this book collected materials from various official historical
records, unofficial history, archaeological discoveries, folklore, and recently
published works on the subject. They also made references to the remains of the
ancient costumes extant, the unearthed pottery figurines, frescoes, painted
sculptures, stone carvings and paintings by famous masters. One of the special
features of this book is a set of 106 reconstructed drawings based on the
design of the original costumes or unearthed relics. These detailed and precise
drawings are important references on the study of the history of Chinese
costumes. The book is divided into 9 chapters according to historical periods.
In each chapter, various styles of costumes including those worn by the
emperors, members of the imperial family, and the common people are dealt with.
Armors, helmets, hairstyles, headgear, and shoes are also discussed."
