Norm Cash spent 15 of his 17 seasons with the Detroit Tigers. He was part of the 1968 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers, a five-time All Star, and the 1961 batting champion who hit .361 finishing more than thirty points ahead of the number two batter. At the time of his retirement, Norm's 377 career home runs were the fourth most by an American League left-handed hitter behind Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Lou Gehrig--nice list, huh? His 373 home runs with the Tigers is tied for second in franchise history with Miguel Cabrera, behind Al Kaline. An apt description of Norm, from the SABR project, is "a larger than life first baseman from Texas who lived, drank, and played hard, sang country and western in the clubhouse, and could be depended upon in clutch situations
Offered is a pair of Norm Cash's game-used Adidas baseball spikes from the early 1970s. These size "10" spikes show significant game wear, with visible damage to the leather and soles. The left side of the right spike features cuts, likely made for added comfort. Adidas spikes began appearing in both MLB and the NFL during the early '70s, and it's possible Cash had a sponsorship with the brand, as period photos show him with Adidas' three stripes painted on his Wilson-brand spikes. Interestingly, the stripes on these spikes are covered with black shoe polish. Very Good to Excellent condition
