ENVELOPE DOCKETED IN ANDREW JOHNSON’S HAND THAT WAS ADDRESSED TO HIM BY WILLIAM T. SHERMAN’S WIFE

President Johnson famously forced General Sherman to rewrite an armistice agreement without political deals to secure the surrender of General Joseph E. Johnston and his forces.  Measures 5.25 by 2.75 inches, postmarked in St. Louis, MO on January 28, contains a 3 cents Washington postage stamp, in very good condition with staining and soiling, and accompanied with a signed certificate of authenticity from Herman Darvick, formerly one of the top historical documents dealers from the 1960s to the 1990s.
