Heraldic: Last insignia worn from 1948 to 1958:
"Shield Gules, edged with bamboo stems Or and edged with sinople with a spahi on horseback pulling, burnous Or in the wind, surmounted by an inscription in Arabic characters and supported by a Sherifian star Or and Sinople." Insignia created in 1948 by the Castries squadron leader, approved on 23 October 1957 under the number G452.
The inscription in Arabic means "Fear only God".
The bamboo stems evoke Indochina where the regiment served from 1947 to 1955.
The green Sherifian star represents Morocco.
