Up for sale, a 1959 Fender Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Simple and elegant, this vintage Champ boasts the hallowed 5F1 circuit. It doesn't get much more pure than the Champ, and this studio favorite delivers dynamic and glassy tube tone that can go from clean to fully saturated overdrive with a twist of the single knob.
The circuit features the original transformer pair, and the Schumacher-made power transformer dates to the 25th week of ‘59. The singular Stackpole pot is present and the preamp has been recapped as needed, with the original yellow Astron and Astron Minimite capacitors included separately. The chassis boasts a clean chrome-plated control panel with nearly all of the original white silkscreen lettering, and a modern three-prong power cable has been added (the original gray two-prong power cable is also included). The tube set consists of all matching Philco-branded valves with a 5Y3 rectifier, 6V6 power tube, and 12AX7 preamp tube.
The original Alnico magnet 8" Oxford 8EV speaker has a clean frame, and the stamp on the edge of the Alnico magnet is from the 35th week of '59. The tube chart is fully intact as well, noting the 5F1 circuit and stamped with an "II" code that translates to September of 1959.
The original lacquered tweed exhibits modest ambering with only light edge wear and a couple of the telltale circular stains on the sides where sap from knots in the wood has come through the tweed. The original leather handle is intact, as is the original oxblood/gold stripe grillcloth.
