These caps are made of unfinished white looking real wood.  Package says redwood, but manufacturer's website says Cedar.  Made for nominal 4X4 post with actual/finish dimension of 3-5/8 x 3-5/8".    A little dusty and weathered looking from storage and handling, but nothing a quick once-over with fine sandpaper during normal prep won't take care of.  

Adhesive built in, but I'd drill pilot holes and run 2 discreet screws up into it if I was installing it on a porch or deck etc within grabbing range.
