Why buy art? Gertrude Stein did! She bought from unheralded artists such as Matisse and Picasso when they were unknown! Needless to say, she made a great investment! Buying my original artwork will be an investment that will increases in value over time.
Calliope Lady
Watercolor
11 x 14 inch
Listed is a watercolor painting of the delightful “City of New Orleans” steamboat! When you’re in the Crescent city, you’ll hear this delightful music, which will lead you towards the river! It’s the wonderful Calliope Lady playing her instrument! This is my favorite sound in the French Quarter!

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Kristi Cavett Jones was named after Howard Chandler Christy, who was a 20th century illustrator and distant relative. Kristi is also the 5th cousin to Clyde Dixon Connell, one of Louisiana's most famous female artists. Kristi developed an innate artistic ability from being raised by artistic parents, both of whom obtained art degrees, and the family home had an art studio and library. Her father has placed (numerous times) in the top tenth percentile in state and federal duck stamp art contests, and her mother sold work at a local gallery.
Kristi briefly studied art at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts (NOAFA), and is also self-taught. She created mosaics for several years, and later sold her tropical jewelry designs at the Red River Revel and other festivals for several years. Recently, she has turned back to painting, and has sold work both locally and nationally. She has exhibited at shows and galleries in northwest Caddo Parish, including Centenary College's Meadows Museum of Art and Centenary's Magale Library, Smith Mason Legacies Gallery, and Artspace in downtown Shreveport.
In December 2011, Kristi was awarded a visual arts grant from the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC), and became a Juried Roster Artist in 2012. In 2015, she was commissioned to create 29 paintings for the new University Medical Center of New Orleans. She is a member of Louisiana Artists, Inc. and the Hoover Watercolor Society. Her oils and water colors are obtained by collectors nationwide! Most of her work depicts the flavors, architecture, landscapes, and culture of Louisiana and the South. Her signature pieces are impressionist cotton bolls and fields.
