Antique woman's folk costume dress from the Zakarpattya region of south-eastern Ukraine. Made of white cotton cloth - heavier top, lighter bottom - with elaborate smocking and embroidery on the chest, shoulders and cuffs. This garment would have traditionally been worn with a skirt and apron with the bottom section of this dress serving as the slip. This slip section has some large stains and small holes, but they would all be covered so I don't consider them to be significant issues. There are also two tiny holes on the chest section that could be very easily mended (if you need help with this I can do it before sending for a nominal fee - just ask) and some faint staining near the underarms. I have washed the garment by hand several times and it looks and feels very clean, but the stains on the bottom half seem to be more permanent. The larger "hole" along the seam on the top section is actually for breast feeding and is there intentionally. Most blouses from this region have this feature. The collar and cuffs fasten with buttons. Rather roomy and accommodating, but I would estimate an approximate size medium. It would fit size small with no problem and possibly large, depending on your specific proportions. The dress measures 22" across the front at the waistline, but has a rather tight collar measuring 14" around when buttoned. The sleeves are 25" from collar to cuff. A wonderful, rare addition to your collection.
