This Amazon purchase was presumably returned due to incorrect cartridge choice for their printer. The blue cartridge packaging was opened but was not used.

What is the difference between the regular 950 cartridge and the 950XL?

The HP 950XL is a high yield cartridge which contains more ink than a standard HP 950. They both have the same dimensions and fit into the same slot in compatible HP printers.

Since XL (or high-yield) ink cartridges contain more ink than standard cartridges, you can print a lot more before needing to replace the cartridge. While XL ink usually costs more initially, they offer a lower cost per page. This makes them more economical for frequent or high-volume printing.

If you are going to be printing regularly, high yield cartridges can offer significant cost savings.
