Description:

This is stunningly beautiful blue & white porcelain Ko-Imari Soba-Choko cup made during late 18th. century in Edo period in Arita and shipped from Imari port, Japan.

(1*) Soba-Choko: Its literal translation is Buckwheat-Cup. One says it was originally made to dip buckwheat noodle into source. Another says it was made to serve dainty bits in a traditional Japanese authentic cuisine. Yes, you can use this cup in many ways with your creative idea such as a sake cup or a demitasse cup

The theme or pattern of this Soba-Choko is "REED" in a lake or pond. It was hand-drawn by an experienced artisan. The shape (especially its outside bottom) and the blue color of this cup indicate the cup was made late 18th. century in Arita and shipped from Imari port.

You can use this cup in many ways such as drinking espresso or Japanese sake or whisky on the rocks, even as a beautiful ornament in your room.

It is in excellent condition. Followings are imperfections but not flaws, which are often seen in Ko-Imari Soba-Choko made in 18th. century.
- Photo #8 & 9: A dark brown spot developed from iron contained in clay and some faint blue spots inside the cup.
- Photo #10 - 12: One part in the center of the bottom looks like a chip. It is NOT a chip, i.e. well covered by graze.

The cup is stored in a newly custom-made wood (paulownia) box, which is best to keep antique items.
