The $2 bill, also known as a "Tom", has been in circulation since the American Revolution in 1776, making it the oldest US denomination. The first federal issue in 1862 featured Alexander Hamilton, but switched to Thomas Jefferson in 1869. The back has depicted Monticello and John Trumbull's "Declaration of Independence" painting. Here's a brief history of the $2 bill:
