Fashioned of 800 silver metal and tiny glass tesserae tiles, this brooch features a naturalistic floral motif showcasing a pink flower, a yellow & purple violet pansy, and is finished off with greenery and closure along the back. During the 1800s, pansy flowers played a significant role in cuisine, the arts, herbal remedies, treatment of ailments, etc. The pansy colors also had significance, with purple symbolizing "royalty" & "nobility,"and yellow symbolizing "joy."
Tiny in size but impactful in presence, this brooch measures overall ~1&3/16" long and ~7/8" wide, and is finished all around.
In overall very good-excellent condition considering age with age-expected dustiness, soilage, tiny dinks and bumps, oxidative changes with patination & discoloration spots in the setting, and a few missing tiny tiles which are difficult to appreciate with the naked eye. The closure is secure and operates smoothly.
