X2-ZERO and AQUAPHIBIAN HAND PUPPETS
Lot of 2 Puppets from "STINGRAY" TV Series - Vintage 1966 Lakeside Toys.

These vintage hard-to-find Stingray Hand Puppets are two of the characters from the Gerry Anderson British Children's Science-Fiction 1964 series "Stingray"; Blue X2-ZERO and Green Aquaphibian.  Puppets for all the Stingray's characters were released by Lakeside Toys in 1966.  The necks of each puppet is imprinted with c. "I.T.C. Ltd" "A.P. Film" Made in Japan.   The TV series was produced by ITC Entertainment and AP Films.

As these puppets were used in actual puppet shows in the 60s and 70s (see below) additional Green and Blue Felt outfits have been sewn on over the original puppet mitt. The original mitts are still there, with the name of each character on the front.  You could always remove the outfit on top if desired.  The green Aquaphibian still has the original tag (see photos), the tag was removed on X2-Zero. The puppet heads are made of soft vinyl rubber and X2-Zero has some paint wear on his hair from rubbing . Please check photos.

Laying flat, both puppets are 10-11 inches tall in their puppet show outfits, and approx. 9 inches wide with the arms stretched out.

History and Provenance: My mother was a professional clown back in the 1960's, 70's and mid-80's and entertained children at Birthday and Christmas Parties.  She would always end her act with a puppet show.  She had a variety of different puppet shows scripted out and a large collection of puppets that she would use.  Often she would enhance the puppets by adding jewelry or ribbons, bows, etc.  She even sometimes replaced the original "body" with custom designed outfits.  Most of her puppets date from the 1960's and 70's (some earlier), and in many cases tags were removed in preparing the puppets for the shows. Her puppet collection has been stored away since her clown retirement in the 1980's and ended up at the Folsom House.   In going through the dozens of puppets a few had to be discarded (a rubber Whale and Lion had too many cracks), a few of her favorites will be kept for memories, but fortunately, although it may take awhile to list them all, most of the puppets can be passed on for future puppet shows and puppeteers.  Check out the Folsom House store for more vintage puppets!
