This curated set includes a profusely illustrated new edition of Pirates of Venus and a collector's portfolio full of rare replica items all housed in a decorated and illustrated custom leather clamshell case.
The 100+ illustrations feature the talents of a dazzling array of ERB artists including Gary Gianni, William Stout, Michael Kaluta, Richard Hescox, Thomas Yeates, Mark Schultz, Daren Bader, Douglas Klauba, Bob Eggleton, Laurence Schwinger, Mark Wheatley and Thomas Grindberg. In addition, this edition includes the sixteen illustrations created by Fortunino Matania for Pirates of Venus published in The Passing Show in 1933 and classic illustrations by J. Allen St. John, Samuel Cahan, Paul Stahr, Roy Krenkel, Frank Frazetta, Jeffrey Catherine Jones, Reed Crandall and Al Williamson. The book will be printed on archival paper, Symth-sewn with 20+ color plates tipped-in, bound into a foil stamped royal blue leather cover with original dust jacket.
The vintage-style collector's portfolio contains an archive of 15+ rare replica items related to the creation and publication of Pirates of Venus. It includes letters from ERB to his son with early ideas for Amtor, outlines and drawings from ERB's notebook, manuscript pages, 1930's promotional items including a postcard, standee and advertising dust jacket, the 1935 first installment of Pirates of Venus in the Honolulu Star Bulletin newspaper, first pages of an unpublished Carson of Venus story and poster size reproductions of original artwork.
The edition will be limited to 548 numbered and 52 lettered sets signed by the contributors. Gary Gianni wrote the Artist Preface and will be one of the signers. This is the fifth matching set in the “New World” series launched by ERB Books in 2020 with A Princess of Mars.
