PAPPE-FIGUREN: In den Kriegsjahren (Zweiten Weltkrieg) stiegen einige Hersteller von Märchen-Holzbildern auf Pappe um, wegen des Materialmangels. Auf eigenen dieser Kriegsware-Figuren steht auf der Rückseite ein Hinweis-Stempel, dass die Produktion „vorübergehend auf Pappe“ erfolgt. Das ist zum Beispiel bei einer handbemalten Aschenputtel-Figur der Fall, die leider einen schlecht lesbaren Hersteller-Stempel hat: Es scheint das Wort „Kunsttruhe“ zum Namen zu gehören und es ist auch eine Truhe abgebildet. Neben den Kriegspappe-Bildern gab es auch Manufakturen, die ohne Not Pappe-Figuren herstellten, viele davon wurden sogar handbemalt. Sie sind aber eher die Ausnahme in der Märchen-Holzbild-Ära (1920er bis 1980er). 

🇬🇧 CARDBOARD FIGURES: Some manufacturers of German Wall Figures switched from wood to cardboard during the Second World War, mainly because there was a shortage of plywood and other materials. I found a stamp on the back of some cardboard figures that translates to: “Painted on cardboard for a while”. I’ve seen this for example on a hand-painted Cinderella figure with yet another stamp on the back with the producer’s name: Unfortunately it’s hard to decipher, it seems to be the word “Kunsttruhe” (Art Chest) and there is even a picture of a chest in the stamp. There are also some producers that made cardboard figures outside the Second World War. They are all an exception though in the German Wall Figures era, which lasted from the 1920s to the 1980s and had one thing in common: They were wood plaques. (Buch/25)
